Curél’s 潤浸保湿 line in Japan has three sunscreens for face and body, all non-chemical (with no UV absorbers): the UV Protection Essence (UVエッセンス, SPF30 PA++), the UV Protection Milk (UVローション, SPF50+ PA+++) and the Skin Repair UV Protection Serum (スキンリペアUVセラム, SPF50 PA+++), launched in February 2026. All three contain Kao’s ceramide functioning ingredient for moisture, are fragrance-free and alcohol-free, can be used as a makeup base, and Kao says they can be used on babies’ delicate skin. The essence and milk are medicated quasi-drugs that also help prevent rough skin.

Curel Sunscreen SPF Compared: UV Essence vs UV Milk vs UV Serum

The UV Protection Essence is the lightest protection (SPF30 PA++) in a water-based essence, the UV Protection Milk is the highest (SPF50+ PA+++) in a milky lotion, and the Skin Repair UV Protection Serum (SPF50 PA+++) is a moist serum for skin that turns red easily in the sun. The table compares them.

What Is the Curel UV Milk?

The Curel UV milk is the UV Protection Milk, sold in Japan as キュレル 潤浸保湿 UVローション (乳液タイプ, “milk type”): a 60 mL medicated sunscreen with SPF50+ PA+++, the highest protection in Curél’s range. Kao says it blends in without feeling heavy, keeps skin moist until evening, helps keep dust and pollen from sticking to skin, and prevents rough skin with dipotassium glycyrrhizate. Shake it until you hear it rattle before use.

What Is the Curel UV Serum?

The Curel UV serum is the Skin Repair UV Protection Serum (キュレル 潤浸保湿 スキンリペアUVセラム), a 60 g SPF50 PA+++ sunscreen launched in Japan on 7 February 2026. Kao made it for dry, sensitive skin that doesn’t want to tan, including skin that turns red easily in the sun. Kao says its serum capsules, which wrap fine UV-blocking ingredients, act as a shield against strong UV, while its ceramide functioning ingredient supports skin’s moisture barrier; Kao describes the result as skin that becomes less prone to sunburn each time you apply it. Unlike the essence and milk, it is a cosmetic, not a quasi-drug. Kao says the serum capsules may show as small grains, which doesn’t affect quality, so blend them in well. It is a sunscreen, not one of the moisturising serums in our Curel serum guide.

Ingredient lists from Kao’s official Japanese product pages (as of October 2026). The essence and milk are listed in Japanese quasi-drug order (active ingredient first); the serum, a cosmetic, is listed in standard order. The English names for the essence and milk are our translations of Kao’s Japanese labelling names. Formulas can change, so always check the package.

Are Curel Sunscreens Mineral (Non-Chemical)?

Yes. Kao says none of its Curél sunscreens contains UV absorbers (chemical filters); they use UV scattering agents, the mineral filters titanium dioxide and, in the UV Protection Milk, zinc oxide. Kao labels all three non-chemical UV.

How to Apply Curel Sunscreen

Apply in several thin layers over your face and body, using enough product, and reapply after wiping off sweat. Kao says too little won’t give enough sun protection.

  1. Shake the UV Protection Milk until you hear it rattle. The essence and serum don’t need shaking.
  2. Take the amount for your face: about 1 cm across for the essence, or about 1.5 cm across for the milk or serum. Adjust the amount for your body.
  3. Smooth it evenly and gently over your face and body, a little at a time.
  4. Reapply after wiping off sweat to keep up the protection.
  5. To remove it, use your usual cleanser: makeup remover or face wash for your face, body wash for your body. Kao recommends its gel or oil makeup remover followed by the Curel Foaming Facial Wash.

All three can be used as a makeup base. Kao’s labels say not to use them on cuts, swellings, eczema or other abnormal skin, and to stop and see a dermatologist if irritation appears.

Where to Buy Curel Sunscreen

The easiest way to get Curel sunscreen is to order it shipped directly from Japan through kachicollect. Buy from the kachicollect catalog with no proxy fees, and if you can’t find the sunscreen you want there, search Japanese stores or marketplaces for its Japanese name (for example, キュレル UVローション or キュレル スキンリペアUVセラム) and paste the product URL into kachicollect for an instant quote, with no request fee. Duties are shown in your total before you pay, and orders ship worldwide with tracking in about 7 to 14 days.

Kao says none of the three is classed as dangerous goods for air transport. On marketplaces such as eBay, check the Japanese name and the SPF on the pack, since the three look similar.

Proxy services that buy from Japanese stores on your behalf are another option, but the service fee they advertise is only the starting point, and various other charges are added on top by the time you check out.

Kao doesn’t make a water-resistance claim; it says to reapply after wiping off sweat to keep up the protection.

Can babies use Curel sunscreen?

Kao says all three can be used on babies’ delicate skin. For babies under one, Kao’s Q&A says avoiding direct sunlight is the basic rule, and around 6 months is the guide for starting sunscreen if needed. For small children, Kao suggests gently wiping it off with body wash on a towel.

Conclusion: Which Curel Sunscreen to Buy

For most people with dry, sensitive skin, the Curel UV Protection Milk (SPF50+ PA+++) is the sunscreen to start with: a non-chemical, fragrance-free medicated milk for face and body that also works as a makeup base. Choose the Skin Repair UV Protection Serum if your skin reddens easily in the sun, or the UV Protection Essence for lighter, non-sticky everyday protection.
