Otona no Oshare Techo is a Takarajimasha monthly aimed at women in their fifties, and it produces some of the largest furoku in Japan. Where other titles bundle pouches, this one regularly delivers full-size totes and boston bags with heavy embroidery – and its Hello Kitty and Moomin collaborations sell out within days.

This page tracks the current issue, explains how the two editions differ, and archives what came with recent issues. It is updated every month.

What’s in this month’s gift

Both editions are built around Hello Kitty, and both sold strongly on pre-order in Japan.

The standard edition carries a large drawstring tote measuring roughly 41cm square with 60cm handles, in this season’s burgundy. The Hello Kitty character and logo are rendered as a raised velvet-effect appliqué, set against a large London bus print. At that size it takes magazines, folders and the oversized fan boards used at concerts.

Otona no Oshare Techo November 2026 supplementary edition free gift - Hello Kitty foldable tote and tomato tin pouch set

The supplementary edition carries a two-piece set instead: a tote of roughly 36.5 × 31cm that folds down into its own pouch, plus a leather-look pouch modelled on a tomato tin at 13.5 × 10.5cm, fitted with a ball chain so it doubles as a bag charm.

Neither set includes the other’s items, so collecting both means buying both magazines.

Standard vs supplementary edition

Otona no Oshare Techo publishes two versions of most issues on the same day, and this is the most common source of confusion when ordering from abroad.

The editorial content is broadly the same – Takarajimasha notes that supplementary editions omit a few pages. What changes is the gift. Each version is a separate product with its own barcode, sold side by side in Japanese bookshops; you choose the one you want, and there is nothing random about it.

The pattern is consistent. The standard edition carries the single large item – a tote, a boston bag, a pouch. The supplementary edition carries a multi-piece set: two or three smaller items, or a set of practical accessories. Both draw on the same brand or character collaboration.

Ordering by month alone is not enough. “The October 2026 issue” could mean a Lisa Larson jacquard clasp pouch or a five-piece set of digital accessories, depending on which edition you land on. Always match the gift description.

What kind of magazine is Otona no Oshare Techo?

Otona no Oshare Techo is published monthly by Takarajimasha, the publisher that effectively invented the modern brand-collaboration furoku. The title covers fashion and lifestyle for women in their fifties, with content ranging from styling and health to recipes and travel.

Its distinguishing trait is gift scale. While the beauty magazines bundle sachets and the younger fashion titles bundle pouches, this one routinely delivers items large enough to use as a primary bag. Recent collaborations have covered Hello Kitty, Moomin, Lisa Larson, Disney, L.L.Bean and Fairycake Fair – a mix of characters with cross-generational appeal and heritage lifestyle brands.

Release day is the 7th of most months. Cover prices sit between roughly ¥1,690 and ¥1,790.

Where to buy Otona no Oshare Techo outside Japan

The magazine is published for the domestic market and has no overseas distribution. The digital edition carries the articles only, since a physical bag cannot be attached to an e-book. Popular gifts sell out within days of release.

This title produces the bulkiest furoku of any magazine covered here, which matters for international shipping. A 41cm tote folded flat still makes the package substantially thicker than a standard magazine, and postage is priced on volume as much as weight. Two things are worth noting. Takarajimasha publishes exact dimensions in advance for every gift, which is unusual and useful when buying sight unseen. And the supplementary edition is not always the lesser option – October’s five-piece digital accessory set is arguably more practical than the standard edition’s pouch, depending on what you need.

Frequently asked questions

Which edition should I buy?
The standard edition carries the larger single item; the supplementary edition carries a multi-piece set. The contents do not overlap, so it depends entirely on which gift you want.

Are the character collaborations authentic?
Yes. Sanrio, Moomin Characters and Lisa Larson all license these officially. They are magazine-exclusive editions rather than items from the brand’s retail range, and are not covered by that brand’s warranty.

Can I buy the bag without the magazine?
No. Japanese publishing guidelines require that a furoku is not an item normally sold separately from its magazine, which is why these designs never appear in Sanrio or Moomin shops.

Do I need to read Japanese?
Not to use the gift. The editorial content is Japanese-only, but the magazine is heavily photographic and the gift itself needs no translation.

When does the next issue come out?
Release day is the 7th of most months. The next issue is listed at the bottom of this page.

Can I still get a sold-out issue?
Only if a copy is still listed somewhere in Japan, usually on a marketplace. Once nothing is listed anywhere, no route can produce one.

Next issue

The December 2026 issue is expected on 7 November. Gift details are usually announced about a month ahead of the on-sale date – we’ll update this page as soon as they land.
