Hada Labo has four main lines in Japan: Gokujyun for hyaluronic acid hydration, Gokujyun Premium for richer hydration, Shirojyun and Shirojyun Premium for medicated whitening with tranexamic acid, and Gokujyun Medicated Hari for wrinkle care with niacinamide. In Japan, “whitening” (美白) on a medicated (quasi-drug) product means it suppresses melanin production to help prevent spots and freckles.

Gokujyun

Gokujyun is Hada Labo’s core hyaluronic acid line, from the foaming wash to the all-in-one gels and sheet mask. The all-in-one gels and the mask carry the 濃極潤 (Koi-Gokujyun) mark on the pack, which is why shops abroad often use that name; see our Hada Labo Perfect Gel guide.

Gokujyun Premium

Gokujyun Premium is the richer hydration line, led by a lotion with 8 types of hyaluronic acid, the most in any Hada Labo product. It also includes a milk, a cream and Hada Labo’s only eye cream.

Shirojyun and Shirojyun Premium

Hada Labo Lotion

Hada Labo lotion (化粧水) is a hydrating toner used after cleansing. There are 9 Hada Labo lotions in Japan, and the regular Gokujyun Hyaluronic Lotion (肌ラボ 極潤ヒアルロン液), with 4 types of hyaluronic acid, is the basic one at ¥902 for 170 mL. Hada Labo Milk

What Is Hada Labo Known For?

Hada Labo is known for hyaluronic acid formulas (Rohto says 1 g of hyaluronic acid holds about 6 L of water) and for leaving out fragrance and colourants. Rohto calls its concept “Perfect Simple”: choosing only what skin needs and leaving out anything unnecessary.

Rohto’s concept page lists fragrance-free, colourant-free, alcohol (ethanol)-free, paraben-free and oil-free formulas, but not every product carries every label. All 26 products are labelled fragrance-free and colourant-free, but only the Gokujyun lotions (regular, Light and Premium) are labelled oil-free; most others are labelled mineral-oil-free instead, and some, such as Perfect Gel, the eye cream, the sheet mask and Medicated Gokujyun Skin Conditioner, contain squalane or other oils. UV White Gel’s ingredient list includes ethanol and methylparaben, 3D Perfect Mask contains methylparaben, and Skin Conditioner isn’t labelled alcohol-free or paraben-free. Most products are labelled weakly acidic (22 of the 26), but Rohto doesn’t publish pH numbers, and the foaming wash, eye cream, Perfect Gel and Whitening Perfect Gel carry no pH label.

How to Build a Hada Labo Routine

A basic Hada Labo routine is cleanser, lotion, then milk or cream; if you prefer one step, Perfect Gel covers lotion to cream after cleansing. In the morning, UV White Gel adds SPF50+ PA++++ in one step.

1. Step by step: Gokujyun Foaming Wash, then a lotion from your chosen line, then a milk or cream from the same line.
2. One step: Gokujyun Foaming Wash, then Perfect Gel (or the Whitening or Hari version for spot prevention or ageing care).
3. Morning: after washing your face, use UV White Gel for skincare and UV protection, then your makeup if you like.
4. Extra care: use Gokujyun 3D Perfect Mask after washing your face; Rohto describes the 30-sheet pack as made for daily use.
5. Acne-prone skin: consider Medicated Gokujyun Skin Conditioner or the regular Shirojyun line, which Rohto says help prevent acne.

Hada Labo in Japan vs Hada Labo Tokyo and Other Markets

Hada Labo Tokyo is the Hada Labo line sold in the US, and its line-up and product names differ from Rohto’s range in Japan; some products, such as Age Correcting Eye Cream, are different products altogether. Hada Labo is also sold under other names in other markets, and formulas can differ, so check the Japanese name (肌ラボ) and compare the ingredient list with Rohto’s.

Why can’t I find Gokujyun Alpha or Hada Labo cleansing oil?

Gokujyun Alpha is not in Rohto’s current Hada Labo line-up (checked September 2026), and the Gokujyun Cleansing Oil no longer appears on Rohto’s Japanese website.
