What Is LuLuLun Hydra PD Mask?

LuLuLun Hydra PD Mask is a cosmetic sheet mask in LuLuLun’s Hydra series, where each mask is named after its key ingredient: PD stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN). LuLuLun made it for skin that lacks firmness and bounce and for people who want a bright, glossy look, and it describes it as a rich essence mask that you can use every morning and night in place of toner. LuLuLun lists the mask as free from colourants, fragrance, mineral oil and alcohol, and calls it a low-irritation formula. “Alcohol-free” means no ethanol; LuLuLun’s FAQ notes that ingredients such as phenoxyethanol are different substances. It does contain parabens (methylparaben).

What Is PDRN? The Two Types in Hydra PD Mask

PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is one of the components that make up DNA; in skincare it is taken from animal sources such as salmon or from plants such as ginseng. Hydra PD Mask contains both: a smaller, plant-derived PDRN that LuLuLun says soaks in first, and a larger, salmon-derived PDRN that follows, reaching the stratum corneum (the skin’s outer layer) in stages. LuLuLun lists both as firming ingredients (ハリ成分), alongside three skin-conditioning and two moisturising ingredients.

Panthenol (skin conditioning), soluble collagen and hyaluronic acid (moisturising) complete the care ingredients. The sheet is LuLuLun’s newly developed Melty feel sheet, a soft, stretchy three-layer sheet that holds plenty of essence, so take it out of the pack gently.

The PDRN in this mask is a cosmetic ingredient, labelled sodium DNA in the ingredient list. It is not the same as the salmon-derived injectables (often called “salmon injections”) offered at beauty clinics, which LuLuLun’s own column describes as a different product.

LuLuLun Hydra PD Mask has 24 ingredients. The two PDRNs come right after water, glycerin and BG, followed by the five care ingredients, and the preservatives are phenoxyethanol and methylparaben.

How to Use LuLuLun Hydra PD Mask

Use LuLuLun Hydra PD Mask after washing your face, in place of toner, morning or night. LuLuLun doesn’t give a time on the Hydra PD page; its FAQ says to leave its lotion-type masks on for about 5 to 10 minutes and its serum and special-care masks on for about 10 to 15 minutes.

1. Unfold the sheet and fit the eye and mouth holes to your face.
2. Hold the inner corners of your eyes and press the whole sheet with your hands to push out any air underneath.
3. Pull the slits below the cheeks up along your jawline, from bottom to top, on each side.
4. Smooth the whole sheet with your palms and leave it on.
5. Take it off, fold it and wipe your face with it, then pat in the remaining essence.
6. Seal in the moisture with a milk or cream.

LuLuLun’s FAQ adds a few tips: store the box at room temperature out of direct sunlight rather than in the fridge, where ingredients can occasionally crystallise; keep the box lid side up; and use an unopened box within about 3 years of manufacture. Don’t reuse a sheet or put one back in the box. If you have sensitive skin, LuLuLun recommends testing it on the inside of your arm first.

Hydra PD vs Hydra EX, V and AZ

Hydra PD is the one for firmness and gloss; Hydra EX focuses on bounce and a translucent look with exosomes, Hydra V on moisture and less visible pores with vitamins and herbs, and Hydra AZ on rough skin and oiliness with an azelaic acid derivative.
