Singapore is one of the easier places in Southeast Asia to buy Japanese matcha powder. A Kyoto matcha brand sells its own stone-ground tins here, Japanese supermarkets stock tea-house matcha, and DON DON DONKI carries matcha from its Japanese parent. What you can buy locally is still limited to what has been imported, though, and most of the matcha Japanese shoppers pick up at home never makes the trip.

This guide starts with how to get that Japan-market matcha delivered to Singapore, then goes through seven local stores one by one, with addresses, opening hours and prices in Singapore dollars where they are published.

Matcha You Won’t Find on Singapore Shelves

Most of the matcha sold in Japan is made for Japanese supermarkets and tea houses, not for export. That includes single-serve matcha latte sticks, matcha milk powders that dissolve in cold milk, “just add milk” mixes of matcha and sugar only, unsweetened matcha processed to dissolve without a whisk, and 30 g tins of drinking matcha from established tea houses in Uji and Nishio.

kachicollect is a Japan-based shop that carries only products made for the Japanese market, so this is exactly the range it stocks. If you are not sure which type you need, our guide to the best Japanese matcha by purpose and our explainer on the types of Japanese matcha powder will help you choose.

How Ordering Works

You pay the listed price plus shipping, with no proxy fees, and the total including any taxes and duties is shown at checkout before you pay, so nothing extra is charged on delivery. Payment is in Singapore dollars by Visa, Mastercard or JCB, so you do not need a Japanese address or card. Orders ship worldwide with tracking and arrive in about 7 to 14 days.

Request Any Matcha by URL

If the matcha you want is not in the catalog, send the product link from a Japanese site. You get an instant quote and can buy it directly on kachicollect with no service fees, and that covers Japanese marketplace listings in general, not only shops. This matters for matcha right now: Japan has been in a matcha shortage since autumn 2024, and many tea houses limit purchases or restock irregularly, so the tin you want may only be available for a short time.

Proxy services such as Buyee, ZenMarket and FROM JAPAN can also buy from Japanese sites for you, but the fee shown upfront is only the starting point, and other costs are usually added along the way. They also buy at Japanese retail prices that include Japan’s 10% domestic consumption tax and pass it on to you, while kachicollect sells for export. A kachicollect purchase request gives you the same access without proxy fees, with the total shown before you pay.

1. TSUJIRI

TSUJIRI is a matcha brand from Uji, Kyoto, with eight cafés and dessert bars in Singapore. Unlike most cafés, it sells its own drinking matcha as a numbered range, from #4 for everyday use to #9 at the top, each stone-ground and packed in 30 g. Most grades come from Uji, while two come from Hoshino in Yame, Fukuoka. The official TSUJIRI Singapore website works as a catalogue with no online checkout, so buy in store and ask which grades each outlet has in stock.

DON DON DONKI is the Singapore arm of Japan’s Don Quijote discount chain, with 18 stores across the island, many of them open late. Its matcha selection includes DONKI Japan’s own Uji matcha, which the chain promotes alongside matcha snacks and latte sticks, and its official Shopee store lists Hishiwaen Uji matcha powder. Prices and stock vary by store, so check the shelf or the official DON DON DONKI Singapore website for your nearest branch.

Takashimaya’s basement food hall at Ngee Ann City regularly hosts Japanese food fairs, and these are when you are most likely to find matcha from named Japanese tea houses in Singapore. From 29 September to 11 October 2026, Kyoto tea house Ippodo is running a pop-up at the Food Stop Event Area on B2, open 10 AM to 9:30 PM, selling matcha, other Japanese teas and tea utensils. Fairs change through the year, so check the store’s announcements before you go.

5. Isetan Supermarket (Scotts)

Isetan’s supermarket in the basement of Shaw House on Orchard Road carries Japanese groceries and often hosts regional Japan fairs, including matcha pop-ups from Japanese tea makers. Shoppers report several Japanese matcha powders on the shelf, but Isetan does not publish the brands or prices and the range changes, so treat it as a place to browse. It is now one of only two Isetan stores in Singapore, following the closure of the Tampines and Serangoon branches. See the official Isetan store information page.

6. FairPrice

FairPrice, Singapore’s largest supermarket chain, lists Ujinotsuyu Maccha Hagoromo 40 g, made in Japan, at S$29.90 on its official online shop, sold by FairPrice itself. That is the same can Meidi-ya lists at S$17.90, so it is worth comparing before you buy. Which physical FairPrice and FairPrice Finest stores carry it is not published, so ordering online is the reliable route.

7. Nana’s Green Tea

Nana’s Green Tea is a Tokyo matcha café chain with three outlets in Singapore, serving matcha drinks, parfaits and Japanese meals. It has sold the matcha latte powder it uses in its own drinks as a take-home can, but this is a sweetened latte mix rather than pure matcha, and current availability is not published, so ask in store. Branch details are on Nana’s Green Tea’s official locations page.

What to Check Before You Buy Matcha in Singapore

Where it was made. Look for the region of origin, such as Kyoto (Uji), Aichi (Nishio) or Fukuoka (Yame). “Japanese-style” does not mean it was made in Japan.

The production or best-before date. Matcha loses colour and aroma once opened, and faster in heat and humidity. Check the date, especially on marketplace listings.

What “ceremonial grade” means. In Japan there is no official grading system for matcha, so “ceremonial grade” is a marketing term rather than a standard. Judge by the maker, the origin and the price per gram instead. TSUJIRI’s numbered grades are the brand’s own scale.

Whether it contains sugar. Many products sold as matcha powder are latte or milk mixes that are mostly sugar and milk solids. That is fine for a sweet drink, but not for tea or baking. The ingredients list tells you in seconds.

How you will store it. In Singapore’s climate, keep matcha sealed, away from heat and light, and use it within a few weeks of opening. A 20 g to 40 g size you will finish quickly is usually better than a large bag. Our guide to how to use matcha powder covers how much to use per cup.

GST and Customs on Matcha Ordered From Abroad

Singapore charges no customs duty on tea; the only dutiable goods are alcohol, tobacco, motor vehicles and petroleum products. What can apply is GST at 9%. Since 1 January 2023, goods worth S$400 or less that arrive by air or post have GST charged at checkout if the overseas seller is registered for GST in Singapore, and the S$400 test applies per item rather than per shipment.

If the seller is not registered, no GST is collected at import as long as the parcel’s total value, including shipping and insurance, is S$400 or less. Above that, GST applies to the full value. With kachicollect, the total is shown at checkout before you pay, so there is nothing to work out yourself.

Ippodo has no permanent store in Singapore, but it runs pop-ups, including one at Takashimaya from 29 September to 11 October 2026. Outside those dates, you can request a specific Ippodo tin from Japan through kachicollect by sending the product link.

Do I pay GST on matcha ordered from Japan?

Possibly. Items worth S$400 or less are charged 9% GST at checkout if the seller is GST-registered in Singapore; otherwise, no GST is collected at import unless the parcel is worth more than S$400 including shipping. kachicollect shows the total at checkout, before you pay.

Conclusion

Singapore has good local options for matcha powder: TSUJIRI’s stone-ground grades, Meidi-ya’s tea-house cans, DONKI’s Uji matcha, and seasonal tea-house pop-ups at Takashimaya and Isetan. What it does not have is the everyday range Japanese shoppers choose from, and with Japan’s matcha shortage, the most sought-after tins sell out at home before they reach an importer.

The simplest way to get that range is to buy it directly from Japan. The kachicollect catalog carries Japan-market matcha you can order today, and anything not listed can be requested by sending the product link. You pay the item price plus shipping with no proxy fees, see the total before checkout, pay in Singapore dollars, and first-time customers can use the code WELCOME20 for 20% off.
